Feeding time

2009.07.12
Keeping watch...

"I don't know about you, but I'm feeling a bit peckish"

Lunchtime!

"Hang on, don't forget me!"

Time to go and fetch some more food...

We’ve been lucky enough to have a pair of housemartins nesting under the eves of our house again this summer. They built a nest there last year and hatched four chicks but they sadly all fell out of the nest and perished. This year they’ve come back and the chicks seem to be growing well. We’ve been seeing their little faces peering out of the nest for a while and we’ve enjoyed listening to the family chattering in the nest of an evening. While Kevin was washing the cars today he noticed the parents coming in to feed the babies at regular intervals so I thought I’d try to capture them for today’s post. Even with my long lens at 200mm plus a 1.4x extender, these shots have been heavily cropped, to get close enough to have some impact. These youngsters obviously have a hearty appetite as the parents were coming in every minute or so with food.
